Life As A Beat Maker ll The Decision to Make Beats – Moxkito
A lot of times I am asked what got me into the business of making beats. The answer is usually one that I really don’t know, because my original goals with music didn’t start off with the goal of becoming a beat maker.
Back when I first started rapping at age 6, I had one main goal in mind, and that was to become a successful emcee.
First year in high school I was free-styling with my colleagues and after some mins i realized that i wasn’t rapping but rather I was playing some beats on the table for them to flow. They were enjoying it and i told myself that challie me kraa i go fe produce beat oo and leave this ma beat maker behind who keeps flexing me..
So after vacation I came home with the mindset of getting a beat making software so that I practice. To make a long story short, I met some people but they all maltreated me. They never had faith in my interest. I felt disrespected countless times till one guy was like sweep my office for me and come get it tomorrow.
After some weeks I had the software but with no knowledge. With school and distractions I used one year to study fruity-loops all on my own. Big shouts to my man “Derrick” who gave me my first mic. During that time I recorded songs like win, wasted etc.
After high school, I heard rhythms playing in my head whiles I also had the passion to develop my piano skills so I furthered my education with a diploma acquired after six (6) months study in Sound Engineering at Abro Media Institute in Ghana.
I then heard about beat makers such as Dr. Dre and Timbaland, as well as Darkchild, aka Rodney Jerkins. I liked these producers because they put more of the musicality that I was accustomed to creating into their hip hop beats and pop beats
One day i decided to upload a beat on youtube and after 3 days i received a call from a guy in Germany that hes interested in the beat. I was shocked and he paid me 50 dollars and later gave the beat to these guys. Watch the video below

So after saving up money from my hustle and begging my parents to help me, I got my first studio but lacked equipments.
Artistes took me for granted and even sometimes after recording it
turned out to be quarrel.I knew everything happened for a reason and I
just wished the reason would hurry up and make itself known. After
sometime I felt the need to upgrade my mixing skills because relying on
beat making alone couldn’t sustain me financially. I visited a studio
for mixing lessons and they used me for 3 months without teaching me. Looking back will be a mistake so I didn’t waste time. I came back for home lessons and self study again. I learned to mix by self-study. My 6 months coarse upgraded my piano skills.
And for now am stacked with less music gadgets, but am making ‘Original fresh sick beats’. “NO Imitation”.
I want to say a big thank you to Kuf duf and Afromusion for the love support.
